Even before the ISBA introduced their slew of labor bills, IEA representatives were concerned with the decision by State Board of Education members who are overseeing the work of the Governor’s Task Force to remove labor issues from task force discussion.
In a word…duh!
After making minor changes, some of which were addressed by the Idaho Education Association, the Idaho School Boards Association got a thumbs up from both the Senate and House Education Committees to reprint six of the seven bills that were printed last week.
The Senate Education Committee printed a total of 14 bills this afternoon, and the House Education Committee is set to print three additional bills tomorrow
The House Education Committee will meet Monday morning to hear reports from various state agencies and to begin discussions about the public schools budget.
Earlier this week, IEA informed the education committee chairs that we expect many educators to take part in the joint education committee listening session, set for Monday afternoon from 4-6 pm in the Capitol Auditorium. Because many educators will be unable to leave their worksites before 4 pm, we wanted to be sure those who would like to speak could have that opportunity, even if they arrived somewhat late to the event.
