Welcome and Introductions
Lane welcomed members at 6:40Adoption of Minutes
Loretta Smith moved to accept minutes. Kathy Hayes seconded. Motioned passed
Message Framing mini-training
Lane handed out NEA Message Guide and Region Charges. Lane spoke about the plan to develop a plan to use local media, create an internal communication plan, plan local/regional legislative meetings, What we are doing to survive and thrive, and have the plan ready by the January board meeting.
Lane presented a power point showing graphs about teachers, unions and teaching quality. We want a positive message about the Association. Members were trained to hold conversations with members, educators, community members, media, and legislatures.
Budget Report
Members received a report. No changes or concerns
Region President’s Report
Elections: No one received a 50% plus one vote and according to IEA by-laws we need to conduct a run-off election. Lourene moved that the run-off election start November 4th – 1oth closing at 5:00p.m. Melanie seconded the motion. Motion passed
Three people from Idaho Falls won cold hard cash
Region Director’s Report
John handed out report and gave the membership update. Region 6 recruited 82 new certificated members. We will be focusing on ESP membership in the spring. John will send out electronic attachment of the membership form. John also handed out state wide goals to communicate with educators with One-on-One conversations. He challenged members to match his goal of 60 conversations by Christmas. You will be placed in a drawing for a $50 gift card. Double your conversations and receive an additional entry. If we reach 1500 surveys by the December meeting, another gift card will be added to the prize fund. John has a link to the survey as a tag to his email and encouraged members to think about doing the same. He passed out a sheet to ask for names of ESPs and a total of the number of One-on-One Interview Reporting Forms.
Local Association Reports
Shelley: School board meeting policies Teacher Evaluation with parent input. SEA wanted appropriate feedback and parents be involved in the school before they fill out input form
Ririe: Parent input- Parents wanting input need to attend parent teacher conferences. Board wanted 2% or less
as part of evaluation. REA have new signature cards and are ready to conduct business. REA looking forward to one-on-one
conversations
Rexburg: REA working with executive board to attend meetings
Jefferson: Building meeting to plan American Education week and One-on-One conversations
Sugar: Evaluations will be placed on core assessments
Firth: District handed out survey about 4 day week. Parents are in favor of 4 day week at elementary level
Fremont: FEA will have more teachers to attend Board meeting. Planning American Education week including ESP
Governance Reports
Board of Directors: Next meeting is November 18th- 19th
Resolutions: Resolutions committee will be sending out resolutions each month for you to forward to members and bring back feedback or concerns. Give members proposal sheet and encourage them to read the monthly resolutions. This is a different direction and hope it will engage members to be more involved in their belief statements.
Govt. Relations/PACE: Virginia sent report.
Human & Civil Rights: HCR planning to place information on Members only section of website. Committee
members will be listed on the site as well as cadre trainers from the site to provide training. Committee has information for
teaching that would Members only section summer training bullying and harassment.
ESP: John (staff liaison) gave report. More discussion about ESP organizing will be discussed at a later date. Statewide training in the spring for all to attend: Organizing for Power.
Old Business
Dick Chilcote(member benefits) will send us a breakdown of the member benefits. John will contact member benefits for update
New Business
Lane proposed a meeting in December to form a plan for Region Charges. Eva moved to set an optional Region meeting for December to work on Region Charges. Members of the board who are unable to attend are invited to send comments on all bullet points via email in lieu of attending. Sherma seconded the motion. Motion passed
